Summit Details

Boulder Community Hospital (BCH), a 265-bed facility in Colorado, converted from Magic to 6.0 and went LIVE with 27 applications in October 2009. Krista McClain, the project manager for the 4-year 6.0 implementation, will share the importance of a project management structure with the move to 6.0 to meet timelines, budget constraints, and resource dilemmas. She will also review the phases of the project from planning, design, build, testing, and implementation and all the road blocks in between.

Next, Daniel Spencer, ARRT, BSB (IS), will explain the difference in support structure for a hospital that is moving from Magic to 6.0. This includes both the large addition to application and infrastructure resources that were needed. He will also discuss how BCH scaled its IT department to meet the demands of a 6.0 environment.

Then two system analysts from BCH, Anita Bellini and Diane Folsom, will discuss the changes between the Magic and 6.0 Client Server environments specifically on application functionality. Examples include: Bedboard, OM, EDM, and other NPR and 6.0 applications.

Next, Johanna Anderson, RNC, clinical analyst at West Georgia Health will share her story about the successful implementation of 6.0 Surgical Module. West Georgia Health is the first hospital to have this functionality. She and her multidisciplinary team took this application live on Jan. 21, 2010. One of the proudest accomplishments of the team was its work with MEDITECH to develop new functionality that makes it possible for all medications administered in the surgical areas to be displayed on the same electronic medication record (eMAR) as the inpatient side. This integration enhancement increases patient safety by providing the physician and clinician staff one place to view all medications instead of it being fragmented between applications.

Kay Bain, RN, clinical analyst at West Georgia Health will present her successful implementation of MEDITECH EDMII, physician’s documentation. She will journey briefly through the highs and lows of that implementation from the open chart to the viewable report. Also included will be ambulatory ordering, physician documentation, and discharge planning. A few template snapshots and some progress charts will complete her session.

Day two will begin with Carol Muhlbauer, Assistant Director of Applications, Development and Support at Doylestown Hospital, who will share her facility’s experiences. A Beta Site for the MEDITECH 6.0 platform, Doylestown Hospital chose to convert from MAGIC to Client Server, and take on the additional challenge of being the first migration to hybrid NPR 5.6/ 6.0 platform.

Carol will discuss some details involved in the conversion and how Doylestown began both the Provider Order Entry and EDM implementation projects. Both of these projects were very successful and high profile. Carol will share with attendees the experiences encountered and what factors led to success.

Each day will be wrapped-up with an in-depth 6.0 Q&A/networking session.

No separate registration is required. This Summit is included in your conference registration.
