VTE Prophylaxis Safety via CPOE

When:  Mar 12, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM (CT)
This presentation offers an introduction and education to VTE, the risk, and the prevention of patient incidence of VTE, which is one of the most identifiable causes of death in hospitalized patients. Utilizing the assistance of CPOE and a comprehensive VTE Prophylaxis Status order, both the provider and nurse can maintain continuity of care and patient safety.


  • Learner will be able to describe what VTE is and how providers can prevent VTE in patients, which is one of the leading causes of patient deaths, via Computer Physician Order Entry (CPOE).
  • Learner will retain education and instruction on how to build a comprehensive CPOE safety order for VTE.
  • Learner will understand how the collaboration with the IT&S Pharmacy Analyst plays an important role in CPOE safety, design, and logic.

April Cook is a dedicated, efficient, and detail-oriented Registered Nurse with extensive experience in healthcare and the hospital environment. She is highly skilled at relationship‐building with patients, colleagues, and across organizations/teams. She is currently working on the Clinical Informatics side of healthcare to ensure the safety of patients, via Computer Physician Order Entry (CPOE).
