Presentation Abstracts

Interoperability: Essential For Successful New Projects

Eric Carey, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Valley Health System, Ridgewood, New Jersey

In this interactive session, you will learn about Valley’s focus on interoperability as an essential component of their successful new projects. The session will demonstrate the power, and challenges, of implementing complex interoperability across the four categories of Human, Facility, Process, and Technology. The presentation will provide examples of projects completed as part of Valley’s new hospital construction project and some other projects. The attendee will learn about ways to incorporate strategies into new projects that will facilitate successful interoperability outcomes.

Unexpected Challenges with Interoperability

Presenter: Sam Fielding, Chief Information Officer, Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, Ontario

We know that a successful solution for interoperability requires a combination of people, processes, and technology. In a complex ecosystem with multiple options and flexibility, this can lead to unexpected implications for processes and people. This presentation will focus on several scenarios where the technology works but there is a requirement to overcome challenges related to consent, workflow, and reputation.

Bridging the Gaps for Seamless Patient Care through Interoperability

Presenter: Mike Cordeiro, Director, Interoperability Market & Product Strategy, MEDITECH

Learn how MEDITECH's new data exchange network, Traverse Exchange, aims to enhance interoperability and data usability for healthcare organizations. It will enable MEDITECH customers to share more data sets beyond the minimum government regulations required, including genomics and advanced directives. The network also prioritizes data usability, offering a consolidated patient summary view supporting intelligent workflows within the Expanse EHR.

Traverse Exchange is one of the tools available to MEDITECH customers to reduce clinician burden, improve data access, and support healthcare organizations in remaining independent while meeting regulatory requirements.
