I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend the MUN conference in Liverpool, UK. Winning the MUSE IEE contest was a truly transformative experience in my career, and I urge others to seize the opportunity to attend and present at MUSE.
My journey began in October 2023 when I was asked, possibly forced(!), to present at a MUSE Community Peer Group event held at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. I decided to present on decision support pathways built in the OM module. These decision pathways are a favorite of the providers and have streamlined complex workflows.
After this presentation, it was suggested that I present at the 2024 MUSE Inspire Conference held in Denver, CO. Having previously attended the conference in 2023, I knew I would see the cutting edge of MEDITECH development. After some discussion, my wife and I decided Denver would also be a great opportunity to expose our two boys to the wonders of the west. We decided to fly to Denver a few days before the conference started to do some sightseeing.
My family kicked off the adventure at Rocky Mountain National Park, hiking scenic trails, taking in spectacular views, and spotting wildlife along the way. The next day, we had a blast at a Rockies baseball game against the Phillies. To top it all off, we spent a day at the Denver Zoo, wandering through the animal exhibits, learning about different species, and making some great memories together. It was the perfect mix of outdoor fun, sports, and learning experiences.
The 2024 MUSE Inspire Conference was amazing. I was able to attend presentations on creative builds, unique vendor solutions, and the long-term plans for MEDITECH. MUSE conferences provide the only opportunity to network and problem-solve with other facilities dealing with similar problems. The obvious highlight of the conference was winning the International Education Exchange (IEE) contest. The contest prize was a once in a lifetime trip to Liverpool, UK to present at the MUN conference.
The MUN conference was an extremely unique experience. While MUSE had a wide range of presentations, MUN was primarily focused on MEDITECH overall future development. I attended presentations on ambient listening, new search functionality developed with google, and entirely new modules.
During the trip, my wife and I also spent time in Scotland. Scotland is breathtaking. We visited Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile, Arthur’s Seat, Loch Ness, and many other amazing sights. Overall, the mix of professional discussions and sightseeing made the trip an unbelievably rewarding experience.
